Art and music, colour and sound, have always been a passion for self taught artist and trained musician, Gillian Smith.  Demonstrating talent as a child to draw, Gillian continued art through her senior years of schooling in Brisbane Australia.

While studying her Bachelor of Music degree, she was encouraged to explore the relationship between colour and sound. Gillian was inspired to continue painting in an effort to capture the visual images she experienced while performing on the piano.

At the end of 2003 she resigned from full time Music teaching and through the encouragement of her friends, and husband David, began painting.

Her energetic and positive approach to life is reflected in her art through a love of colour, texture and movement.  Originally showing a preference for oils she now enjoys working primarily with acrylics, ink pen and watercolour.

It is possibly the development of her kinesthetic skills which lead to the creation of works that “move” or “want to be touched”.

Gillian draws inspiration from moments, personal interests, images or memories of her life.
